Malawi’s Mudzi Cultural Troupe is expected to tour China in what promises to be a spectacular celebration of the two countries’ ties.

According to Mudzi director Hussein Gopole, the multipurpose group will leave for China in December to showcase a fusion of Malawian dances in collaboration with performers from that country.

“We are happy to announce that in December, we will be heading for China in a cultural tour. We will spend four months showcasing an act, titled Our Malawian Story, which brings to the world the richness of our cultural heritage,” said Gopole on Friday.

The artist, formerly of Dygo and Village cultural troupes, said the act has been choreographed to mirror the centrality of the country’s cuisine, music, medicine, religion and chieftaincy to an overseas audience.

Last month, the six-year-old group announced change of name from Mudzi Dance Troupe because now it also comprises painters, potters, weavers, carvers and singers.

According to Gopole, 15 members of the 17-strong group are expected to make the Malawi-China Dance Tour.
