Malawi’s private sector asked to use farmers fairs

Malawi Government has asked the private sector to use farmers marketing fairs to clinch business deals with farmers.

Luchenza Municipal Council chief executive officer, Gift Rapozo, said this at a farmers fair, the Wellness for Livelihoods Advancement (Wala), organised in the municipal.

“These fairs should not be just something that always happen, but they should offer an opportunity where farmers and the private sector clinch business deals,” he said.

The Agriculture Commodity Exchange (ACE), Exagris, Opportunity International Bank of Malawi (OIBM), National Bank of Malawi (NBM), Finca, Indebank and Medical Aid Society of Malawi (Masm) were some of the private sector organisations that participated in the fair, whose guest of honour was Rapozo.

Wala chief of party, Shane Lennon, said the fairs are meant to bring together stakeholders in the agriculture sector.

“Apart from the fairs providing an opportunity to different stakeholders to come together and market their services, the fairs are aimed at assessing if relationships made in previous fairs still exist,” said Lennon.
