Malawians who at support English Premier League side Arsenal on Sunday donated cash and assorted food items worth K369 000 to the ailing netball legend Emma Mzagada.
The Malawian fans who are based in the UK, Qatar, Germany and Malawi, generated the sum through their 39-memberWhatsApp group.
The group’s coordinator, Tiyese Kaimila, said they decided to help the former Malawi Queens shooter after noting her health in the press.
“We read that she needed money for her leg surgery at BeitCure International Hospital and we thought it wise to contribute towards that cause,” Kaimila said.
“This is the first time that Malawian Arsenal fans are involved in charity in the country and we would like to make it a habit.”
The netball legend’s elder sister Jessica Mzagada expressed gratitude to the ‘Gunners’ for the support.
She said: “The money will go a long way in meeting the cost of my sister’s leg surgery. Now, this means we have at least K900 000 and we are close to meeting the required K1.5 million.” n
