Ghana-based Malawian fashion designer Alinafe Misomali will represent the country at this year’s Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) Fashion Week.

The second edition is set for August 28 to 30 in Cotonou, Benin and will mark the 40th anniversary of the regional bloc.

Misomali’s women’s wear brand Alinafe will participate at the fashion week as a representative of Ghana, one of the fashion powerhouses on the continent.

Fashion creatives in designing, manufacturing, makeup artistry, styling, photography, and beauty segments will be brought on board at the event.

The designer of the self-made label says will make Malawi proud at the Ecowas Fashion Week.

“I’m so existed and honoured with the opportunity to represent Ghana at the event alongside over 50 other designers from other African countries. While going to Benin as from Ghana, but I will represent Malawi more. I will be unveiling my new collection at the event; the pieces are majorly monochrome effect of black and white and I believe the patrons will love it,” she said.

Her brand was recently showcased at Bastile Day in Accra and partnered with textile giant Vlisco to present collection at a bridal exhibition held at Accra International Conference Centre last month.

According to information sourced on www.ecowasfashionweek.com, organisers of EFW are mostly interested in building, expanding and encouraging fashion, and a common market hub amongst the West African States.

Apart from Ecowas Fashion Week, partnering with top buyers who will be exposed to the raw ingenuity of the fashion creative, the event will also have an awards segment where people who have made great contributions to the fashion industry will be honoured.

“Awards and recognitions such as Lifetime Achievement Award and the Ecowas Young Designer of the Year will be given to designers who have contributed immensely in the area of fashion and most outstanding upcoming designer respectively. Being a yearly event, this will spur healthy competition among young and upcoming designers in the region to put in originality in their work,” reads the website.

The maiden edition took place last year in Lagos, Nigeria with several designers from various countries of the world showcasing and exhibiting their products.

Ecowas Fashion Week was designed to hold in various member States which, is in line with the purpose of promoting unity among the countries and the world in general.
