Malawians in UK tipped on fraud syndicate

Malawian High Commission in the United Kingdom (UK) has cautioned all Malawians in the UK that there is a new syndicate claiming to assist foreign nationals to obtain permanent residence permits (indefinite stay) for commonwealth citizens.

According to a post on the Malawi High Commission in the UK Facebook page, the syndicate is charging up to £75.00 (about K75 000) for its membership card, and between £300.00 (about K300 000) and £600.00 (about K600 000) for documents to enable one to claim British citizenship.

“The High Commission wishes to inform the Diaspora community that according to the advice received from the British (UK) Home Office, there is no organisation mandated by the British Government to transact on its behalf or make applications for citizenship for nationals from other Commonwealth countries. Therefore, any institution (s) claiming to offer such assistance or service is a fraud syndicate,” reads the post.
