Malawi Local Government Association (Malga) project manager Harold Mkandawire has said the recent citizen engagement meeting with councillors from the Southern Region will empower citizens in the implementation of developments projects.
Speaking after the meeting in Blantyre last week, he said such interactions help citizens to voice their concerns through a number of platforms that, Mhub, Malawi’s first ever technology hub, has created.
He said: “The interactions brought out so many issues such as reasons certain public infrastructure is not being rehabilitated or why refuse is not collected by the council.
“This platform has helped to iron out such differences as authorities have explained the reasons behind the delays.”
Mkandawire said Mzinda Platform, which was created by Mhub and other partners such as Story Workshop as well as Citizen for Justice (CFJ), is a viable and faster way of accessing information as many people are connected online.
Mhub project officer Blessings Chavula said they are on an awareness campaign nationwide whose objective is to not only enhance citizen engagement with duty-bearers, but also empowering them to know their rights and demand them.
