Malimba Band drummer dies

Stanley Jere, a member of one of the country’s flourishing youthful music bands, Malimba, has died.

According to music producer and promoter Amos Mlolowah, who is close to Jere’s family, Stanley died Friday  night at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

He said Jere, who was staying in Ndirande Township, had been complaining of a leg problem for sometime.

“He was admitted at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital on 30th December when his condition worsened. I received a call about his sudden death on the night of the new year,” said Mlolowah.

According to Mlolowah, the late Jere will be laid to rest on Sunday at Mbadwa cemetery in Ndirande.

Funeral vigil is being held at his mother’s house near Kachere CCAP in  the same Township.

Gospel musician Steve Muliya said he was saddened by Jere’s death. He described the late Jere as a talented young man, whose services will be greatly missed.

Jere is survived by a wife and a child.

Malimba is a  youthful band which has backed a number of musicians in the country, especially gospel artists.
