Malswitch changes sponsorship format for Unima games

Malswitch has stopped sponsoring University of Malawi’s (Unima) big sporting events such as the University of Malawi Students Union (Umsu) Games, but they will be sponsoring competitions for a particular Unima constituent college.

The firm’s business development and sales officer Harry Hackim made the revelation on Saturday after funding a day-long Poly Bobcats Invitational Basketball Tournament to the tune of K300 000 (about $714) at the Polytechnic.

This means Malswitch will not bankroll the 2013 Umsu Games expected to start from June 15-16, as they did last year when they injected K2 million (about $4 761) into the annual event.

“What will be happening is that a college will be identifying an event it wants to organise and forward us its proposals for consideration of financial support. But let me emphasise that it is not a commitment that we will be doing this each and every time,” said Hackim.

The six-team Poly Bobcats Invitational Basketball Tournament was won by Chanco Hawks after beating Hi Flyers 40-26.
