Gospel musician Mlaka Maliro has described his Musicians Association of Malawi (MAM) Best Gospel Artist Award as a certificate of approval that he is the best.

Mlaka said this in an exclusive interview when discussing his life as a gospel artist.

He said he did not expect to win the award so soon into his gospel music career, but said his followers could not ignore the talent in his debut gospel album Hossana and the stage antics he exposed last year.

“I am still new in gospel music and there are artists that are popular in the genre, but the best is the best no matter where you are. The certificate is just an accreditation that I am one of the best and I thank my fans for following me despite the shift,” said Mlaka.

The multi-award winning musician said his strength rests in the style he uses in his music which is a combination of everyday stories intertwined with biblical references.

“Most artists that shift from secular to gospel music flop and before I made my announcement to join gospel music, I looked at myself and capabilities.

“I can now declare that I am ready to maintain the reputation and I ask my fans to maintain their support to me,” said Mlaka, who has 12 albums to his credit.

Mlaka added that he has been a gospel artist all the time and he will maintain his style to ensure that his preaching is complemented by real life examples.

Meanwhile, the artist has announced that his second gospel album He is Alive will be released in two months’ time. The one-time top music seller said he is working on the videos and is planning to release CD and DVD AT one go.
