Police in Dedza have arrested Anafi Bwanali, 36, for allegedly scalding his wife with hot cooking oil over family issues.

Dedza Police Station spokesperson Edward Kabango said the couple attempted to conceal the incident.

“The incident took place on 29th April but the couple did not report it until a week later when some people tipped off the police about it,” he said.

Kabango said the dispute followed a concern by one of the children to his mother that his father was mistreating him.

When the husband learned about the issue, he got angry and a fight ensued between the couple.

He said at the time the couple was fighting, cooking oil was boiling and when the wife attempted to remove the pan from the fire, the husband thought she wanted to attack her with it.

“The man thought the wife was trying to scald him with the hot oil so he moved quickly towards her and they both fell on the pan,” said Kabango.

He said the wife got scalded on the face and chest while the man sustained scalds on the arm.

Bwanali, who is facing charges of acts intended to cause grievous harm, comes from Katsekaminga Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kamenyagwaza in Dedza while his wife is from Matenje Village in T/A Kasumbu in the same district. n
