Police in Ntcheu have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly killing his father at Kanjati Village in Traditional Authority Kwataine following a disagreement.

He said the incident happened on September 16 2017.

Chigalu told Malawi News Agency (Mana) that the deceased, Yona Kaphwiti, 60, from the same village, was doing a business of exchanging plastic cups with worn-out plastic shoes which he later sold to plastic manufacturing companies.

“He used to send his son to sell the plastic shoes to companies in Blantyre. However, the two were having disagreements over money issues whenever the suspect returned from Blantyre,” he said.

It is alleged that on this day, the deceased followed his son to a drinking joint after he came back from sales in Blantyre.

“It is believed that things did not go down well there as the son failed to account for the money realised from the sales and a fight ensued. In the process, the son hit his father on the head with an unknown object,” said Chigalu.

The deceased is reported to have been taken to Ntcheu District Hospital after falling unconscious where he died while receiving treatment.

A post-mortem revealed that death was due to internal bleeding.

Meanwhile, the suspect is expected to appear in court soon to answer a charge of murder, according to Chigalu. n
