Man arrested for using fake US dollars

Police in Blantyre have arrested a 44 year-old man for allegedly using fake United States dollars ($) to purchase fuel at various filling stations in the city.

In an interview, Blantyre Police Public Relations Officer Elizabeth Divala said the suspect, Shameel Ousmane, was arrested Fridaymorning.

Driving a Toyota RAV 4, registration number PE 1769, Divala said Ousmane has been purchasing fuel using the fake bank notes since last week.

The matter was reported to police, hence the arrest.arrest

“He was caught at Machinjiri in Blantyre where he was also trying to purchase fuel at a filling station using fake US$800,” explained Divala.

According to Divala, Ousmane was on the police wanted list for allegedly committing various crimes in the country, including armed robbery.

Divala further said he will appear in court soon to answer charges of theft and being found in possession of fake currency.

Ousmane hails from Mitawa village in the area of Tradition Authority Likoswe in Chiradzulu.
