Police in Lilongwe on Sunday arrested Dalitso Dzama for being found in possession of a Star pistol with six live ammunitions at Kaliyeka in the city.

Lilongwe Police Station spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula told Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Monday that they received information that the suspect was selling a firearm at K500 000.

“Kawale Police took it up and managed to arrest the suspect. However, the matter is still under investigations to establish where he got the pistol,” said Dandaula.

Dzama, 21, comes from Lifidzi Village, Traditional Authority Maganga in Salima.

In a related development, police last Thursday recovered a Makarov pistol with one live ammunition in a maize garden in Area 22A near the bottle stores.

“Police were tipped off that some unknown people had hidden a firearm in a maize garden in area 22A and visited the scene where they found the Pistol wrapped in a plastic bag hidden in a maize garden,” said Dandaula.

He said the matter is still under investigations to trace and arrest the owner of the pistol.
