Police in Neno have arrested 44-year-old man for allegedly defiling his 11-year-old biological daughter.

According to Neno police spokesperson Raphael Kaliati, on November 16 this year, the man forced himself on the girl while her mother was attending a village banking meeting within the village.

“The suspect took advantage of the mother’s absence, called the victim inside the house and defiled her.  The victim kept it to herself for her father threatened her to never reveal the ordeal to anybody.

However, a woman from the village noticed that the girl was having difficulties walking and after interrogation she narrated the whole story. The matter was then reported to the community social welfare representative who took it to police,” explained Kaliati.

According to Kaliati, the suspect who was arrested on November 19, will be taken to court soon to answer charges of incest contrary to section 157 (1) of the Penal Code.

Section 157 (1) of the Penal Code stipulates: “Any male person who has carnal knowledge of a female person, who is to his knowledge his grand-daughter, daughter, sister, or mother, shall be guilty of a felony and shall be liable to imprisonment for five years: Provided that if it is alleged in the information or charge and proved that the female person is under the age of thirteen years, the offender shall be liable to imprisonment for life”.

The suspect hails from Hiwa village in the area of Traditional Authority Chekucheku in the district.
