Alex Sakala, who cycled from Mzuzu to Nkhata Bay on February 1 this year to raise K1 million for Mzuzu Disability Organisation (Mzudo), has appealed for support after failing to hit the target.

In an interview on Wednesday, he said he needs more support for Mzudo.

“I realised less than a quarter of the targeted amount, which is sad for the initiative,” said Sakala.

He said another fundraising activity will be held on March 1 to meet the target.

“I, therefore, request well-wishers to contribute towards the initiative which seeks to help Mzudo operate normally and boost the livelihoods of persons with disabilities [PWDs],” said Sakala.

Malawi Council for the Handicapped (Macoha), community rehabilitation officer (North) Hilda Zimba said PWDs face challenges such as lack of funds and skills.

“We need money to teach them skills that will help them earn money for a living,” she said.
