Man found dead at guest house

A man was found dead in a room at Fumbauzi Rest House at Rumphi Boma on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sydney Matchere (40) of Solomon Matchere Village Traditional Authority (T/A) Mtwalo in Mzimba District.

Rumphi Police spokesperson Victor Khamisi said the owner of the rest house became suspicious when the deceased did not return his room keys on Friday morning after spending a night there.

He said the rest house owner went to the room and found it still locked.

“He [the owner] broke the lock, entered the room and found the deceased lying in bed motionless,” said Khamisi.

He added that the issue was reported to police.

Said Khamisi: “The deceased was taken to Rumphi District Hospital where a postmortem revealed he had died of sepsis infection.

“He was often admitted to hospital for the same problem as evidenced by his health passbook.
