Man found dead in botanic gardens in Mzuzu
A 44-year-old man was found hanging from a tree at Botanic Garden within Mzuzu City at around 6am on Thursday, police have confirmed.
Mzuzu Police Station deputy spokesperson Cecilia Mfune said the incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, January 20 2016.
“What happened is on Wednesday night, Peter Kaunda went to sleep with his family at around 10pm in the evening. However, in the middle of the night, the deceased went outside to answer the call of nature, but did not return,” she said.
She said when his wife noticed that her husband was not returning, she followed him, but he was nowhere to be seen. She then informed her neighbours who launched a man- hunt, but could not locate his whereabouts.
On Thursday morning, passers-by found a man hanging from a tree and informed police who rushed to the scene in company of a clinical officer.
The latter confirmed that Kaunda had died due to strangulation, according to police.
The deceased came from Kayuni Village, Traditional Authority(T/A) Nyaluwanga in Nkhata Bay District.
