The Kasungu First Grade Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday sentenced Alberito Mvula, 30, to 11 years imprisonment with hard labour for being found guilty of raping a 17-year-old girl.
Kasungu Police spokesperson Edwin Kaunda said in an interview the victim met her fate on her way back from a grocery at around 6:30pm on February 15 2014.
“On her way back from the grocery, the girl met her uncle who coaxed her to have sex with him, but she refused.
“It was after realising that his efforts yielded nothing, Mvula dragged his niece to a nearby bush where he raped her,” explained Kaunda.
He said after the incident Mvula went into hiding until he got arrested and appeared before court on May 6.
“State prosecutor Sub Inspector Griffin Luhanga paraded three witnesses who testified against Mvula before magistrate Hens Kantchere found him guilty of rape charges,” said Kaunda.
The convict hails from John Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Simlemba in the district.
