The Limbe Dalton Principal Magistrate court on has today sentenced Christopher Chisale, 26, to 12 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) for defiling an eight year old girl.

The court heard that Chisale defiled the girl at Sawale village in Chiradzulu on July 23 this year, but police only arrested him on 2 August.

Chisale who used to live in the same neighbourhood with the girl, reportedly found the girl and her two friends playing outside their parent’s house. He sent two of the girls to buy biscuits at a shop and defiled the other girl. He then disappeared from the area after noticing that police were
looking for him. During mitigation, Chisale pleaded for leniency, saying he was physically challenged and the only breadwinner for his family. But passing judgement, Principal Resident Magistrate Kingsley Mulungu condemned the behaviour by Chisale, saying the 12 years are to give him a lesson and to deter would be offenders. Chisale hails from Mununkha Village in the area of Tradition Authority Mpama in Chiradzulu.
