The suspect, identified as Chitsanzo Boniface Chanunkha, allegedly hacked his 60-year-old father in the head with a hoe.

Mponela Police spokesperson Kondwani Kandiado on Sunday said the son is expected to appear before court to answer murder charges.

Kandiado alleged that the two met Friday morning in their field where the suspect cut sugar cane to eat without his father’s consent; hence, a fight ensued.

“Due to old age, the father was overpowered and the suspect took a hoe and hacked him in the head,” said Kandiado.

He said the father screamed for help, but no one came to his rescue and villagers later found him in a pool of blood.

“A post-mortem at Madisi Mission Hospital revealed that death was due to a severe loss of blood,” said Kandiado.
