Police in Kasungu have arrested Moses Phiri (20) for allegedly being found in possession of 200 fake coupons.

Kasungu Police spokesperson Edwin Kaunda said in an interview on Monday the suspect was arrested on December 26 2012 when he attempted to buy legume seeds from a Nasfam shop at Kawamba Trading Centre.

“He showed the shop attendant the coupons he wanted to use in buying the seeds. But the shop attendant suspected them to be fake; hence, he informed the police,” he claimed.

Kaunda said the police rushed to the scene and arrested Phiri.

“When police asked the suspect where he got the coupons, he claimed he bought them from unknown people. He has since been charged with possessing counterfeit materials and will appear in court soon,” he said.

Moses Phiri comes from Moses Village in the area of Senior Chief Lukwa in the district.
