Manager says Peter safe despite Simba coach exit

Flames midfielder Peter Banda’s manager says the player is safe at Simba FC in Tanzania despite the resignation of coach Didier Gomes da Rosa who signed the former Nyasa Big Bullets player.

The Tanzanian Super League outfit and the French coach announced Tuesday that they parted ways just days after the club was booted out of the CAF Champions League.

The development sparked rumours of a bleak future for the Flames midfielder and his compatriot Duncan Nyoni, who joined the club in August.

The coach who signed him has resigned: Banda

But Banda’s manager and uncle Mayamiko Mwinjiro said the player is safe, adding that the coach’s departure will work in favour of the players.

He said he was hopeful that the new coach will give the players more game time.

Banda and Duncan have not enjoyed game time at the club where they replaced Cleotus Chama and Luis Miquissone, respectively.

Meanwhile, soccer analyst Felix Ngamanya Sapao has advised the Malawian players to work hard at the club, saying the Tanzanian giants have no patience for results.

He said: “Peter and Duncan replaced very big players Cleotus [Chama] and Luis [Miquissone] who were sold.

“They fitted in very big shoes. Simba do not wait for glory. It’s now or never. That’s how big clubs operate.”

Simba had a good run last season, winning the league, the FA Cup as well as reaching the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.

But they have struggled this season, losing the Charity Shield to rivals Young Africans and have managed just a win and a draw from their last two league matches.

Last weekend, they threw their first leg 2-0 advantage against Botswana outfit Jwaneng Galaxy away, to fall 3-1 at home, which sealed the fate of the coach.

A statement from the club reads: “After an in-depth discussion, both parties have mutually agreed on the terms of their separation.

“In the interim, coach Thierry Hitimana will be the acting head coach while coach Seleman Matola remains his assistant.

“In addition to the above, the club has also made minor changes to the technical bench by amicably separating with goalkeeping coach Milton Nienov and fitness coach Saddle Zrane.”
