Donbell Mandala and Beatrice Mangwana put to good use the cool-but-stable weather condition at Country Club Limbe (CCL) on Independence Day to take easy glories in the NBS Bank Monthly Mug in the men’s and ladies’ categories respectively.

Mandala got off to a rocky start with five bogeys on the front nine, but rallied on the back nine with two birdies and six pars as he cruised to net-70 victory in the 70-golfer event.

Playing off handicap 15, Mandala pushed Ignacio Kambale and Gurtej Singh Nain to the second and third slots where they settled for net-71 and net-72, respectively.

“I had a wonderful round of golf today. However, the defining moment to winning this contest came on the 15th hole when my long putt ended into a second birdie after I hit the initial birdie on 12,” said Mandala, who last won NBS Bank Monthly Mug in October 2015.

As for Mangwana, the three pars she got on the day corroborated well with her handicap-27 to help her win the 12-golfer ladies section with net-75. She fluffed off contention from her runner up Connie Karuku (net-78) and third placed Harriet Marian (net-85).

David Nyirenda was the only golfer that earned a two-club and went away with K56 000 for his achievement.

NBS Bank marketing manager Timothy Ngwira thanked the golfers for good patronage and urged them to continue banking with the bank to enjoy excellent services.

“For example, we have relaunched our Internet banking so as to let our clients do transactions 24/7. We have also integrated our services with Airtel Money. With this, our clients can link their bank account with Airtel Money for cash transactions,” he said.
