Mangochi CSOs told to sensitise people on land tenure

Civil society organisations (CSOs) in Mangochi have been asked to sensitise people on land tenure security, framework and guidelines to land policy to ensure that the new Land Law is well implemented.
Land Net Malawi senior project officer Tawonga Chihana said this in Mangochi on Friday during the closing of a four-day land tenure and policy guidelines training.
The training was organised to drill the CSOs, chiefs and leaders at the district level to maintain a strong, unified and coordinated civil society voice and domesticating the new land laws to ensure that communities understand them.

“In recent years, land grabbing has left some farmers with no compensation and without recourse to justice. This has led to the escalation of disputes and conflicts related to land and other natural resources. Women are marginalised when it comes to land ownership,” she said.
Chihana said the new land laws would provide answers to land-related problems because they are a step towards revising the legal framework governing land rights.
She said land tenure security could improve and land administration decentralised, hence the need for the people to familiarise with it.
Mangochi CSOs chairperson Turner Banda thanked Land Net Malawi for the training which Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) funded. 
