Mangochi end Envirom’s good run
Envirom’s remarkable run in the Southern Region Football League (SRFL) Premier Division was brought to a halt by Mangochi United on Sunday who beat them 1-0 in Mangochi.
This was first league defeat for Envirom who are relishing a return to the top-flight Super League after being relegated last season.
Charles Douglas struck the lone goal of the match from the penalty spot which relegated Evirom to second position with 30 points from 13 games.
“Mangochi were well prepared for the match. It was a good game and such is life in football. All is not lost, the journey is still on and we’ll recover from the loss,” said Envirom coach Aubrey Nankhuni.
Bvumbwe Research, another former Super League side, now top the chart with 31 points also from 13 games after beating Chitakale 1-0 in Bvumbwe on Sunday and Gift Kwanyasa scored the lone goal.
Max Bullets occupy the third position with 29 points from 13 games.
FC Surestream are on fourth position with 25 points from 11 games. On Saturday, Surestream were held to a barren draw by Green Hawks and on Sunday they beat Poly 2-1. Mike Nkwate and Patrick Phiri scored for Surestream.
Surestream technical director Peter Mponda said they are happy with their progress.
“As I said, for us it’s not about fighting for the championship, but rather to gain experience and come next season, I am sure we’ll be on course,” said Mponda.
Zomba United are fifth on the standings with 23 points from 10 games. So far, only Bvumbwe and Max Bullets are unbeaten.
