Chilipa and Nankumba health centres in Mangochi  District are this year’s recipients of the infection, prevention, control (IPC) and reproductive health service awards.

The two facilities have excelled in the areas of IPC and reproductive health services.

Speaking during the trophy presentation ceremony at Chilipa Health Centre on Thursday, chief director for Presidential Initiative on Maternal Health and Safe Motherhood, Chimwemwe Chipungu, said the awards are an annual event established to trigger infection prevention control and enhance reproductive health services among hospital staff.

He described the performances of the two health centres as impressive and worth emulating by other  facilities in the country.

“It is pleasing to have Chilipa and Nankumba health centres recognised in infection prevention and control practices as well as achieving a feat in reproductive health services. This is no mean achievement,” said Chipungu.

He appealed to the communities to go to for voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) to combat HIV and Aids.

Deputy chief of party for Support for Service Delivery Integration (SSDI), Deliwe Malema, said the awards showed collaboration between staff and the community in infection prevention.

Chilipa Health Centre in-charge Elias Gondwe said the awards would encourage them to work hard to win again next year. n
