Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) has organised a pool bonanza in a move to revive the sport which they say is now dormant in the Northern Region.

The association has pumped in K300 000 (about $462) for the tournament scheduled to take place at Chenda Motel on Sunday.pool

The champions are expected to receive K200 000 (about $308).

Mapa vice-president Mathews Munthali said with the absence of the sponsors, pool was dead in the region.

“We noticed that the sport is no longer active and all the clubs are no longer in existence,” he said.

In the previous year, the regional league kicked off in January, but ended prematurely because clubs pulled out due to lack of sponsorship.

Northern Region Pool League (NRPL) general secretary Maxwell Mtawanga hailed Mapa for the sponsorship.

He said the bonanza will go a long way in making sure that pool players in the region should not stay idle.

“We thank Mapa for sponsoring this tournament. This is a welcome development that will make players to still love the sport,” he said.
