Marry someone you know well

Listen to this article

When entering a union of marriage, one has to make sure that he/she knows well the person he/she is getting committed to. In Genesis 24: 1-7, Abraham gave specific instructions concerning his son’s wife to be. The servant sent by Abraham to go and get a wife for Isaac was made to swear an oath that he would not get a wife for Isaac from the Canaanites, but from his country. This signifies how seriously marriage is supposed to be treated. Abraham was very conversant with the traditions and customs of his people and was sure his son would find a suitable companion from his home land, Mesopotamia, not from where he was living; Canaan. The servant asked God for a sign to validate his errand. He was looking for a woman who was kind, who would offer him and his camel’s water to drink. Before he had finished praying, there was Rebecca, who qualified to be the one!

A marriage partner should not be imposed on a person, nor found in haste. Time should be spent on trying to find the suitable mate for a lifetime.

Take time in prayer asking God to help find the right person whom you can spend your life with. Pray until something happens.

Be specific with God. Tell him what exactly you would like to have from this mate whom you are looking for. When you wait upon the Lord, He will definitely give you the right person.

When Mr/ Miss right have come your way, take time to know him/her well. Know their likes and dislikes, beliefs, reactions, educational background, family background, ambitions, social life, whether they are lazy or hard working, last but not least, the prayer life of this person.
