Mary Mount wins school hygiene award

Mary Mount Secondary School in Mzuzu has won the first prize in this year’s My Clean School, My Pride competition run by Beautify Malawi (Beam) Trust.

Beam, founded by First Lady Gertrude Mutharika, runs the school sanitation award in partnership with Independent Schools Association of Malawi (Isama).

Clean win: Mary Mount students showcase their trophy

Mutharika presented a trophy, laptop computer, television set, Kiliye-Kiliye decoder, a water tank and wheelbarrows to the winning Catholic girls’ school at Mzuzu State Lodge on Friday.

According to Isama president Joseph Patel, the judges assessed availability and consistent use of toilets and other sanitation facilities as well as the state of woodlots, flowers and surroundings.

Marist Secondary School in Dedza was named runners-up while the third prize went to Mama Khadija Islamic School in Mangochi.
