Renowned Malawi Defence Force (MDF) boxers Wilson Masamba and Osgood Kayuni are today expected to sign contracts with Mulanje Last Boxing Promotions (MLBP) ahead of their non-title bout at Robin’s Park in Blantyre on September 24.

According to MLBP director Mike ‘Bangwe One’ Chitenje, the contract signing ceremony will take place at Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) in Blantyre this morning.

“We feel it is now time to put pen to paper on this impending high-profile fight because presssure has been mounting, especially, from Blantyre boxing fans that have been starved of professional bouts for some time,” Chitenje said.

On their part, Masamba and Kayuni said they are ready for the showdown, which will rekindle their rivalry that went into oblivion for the last two years.

Buoyed by his knockout triumph over Tanzanian Mudy Machine Elia in Lilongwe last week, Masamba said his fists itch for a successful revenge against Kayuni, who emerged winner in their last three meetings.

“I am in the process of making arrangements to board a bus to Blantyre so I can be available for contract signing on time tomorrow. I am really happy that I have been given a chance to avenge my previous losses to Kayuni. I have studied his tactics and I am ready for the challenge,” said Masamba, whose record stands at 28 wins, six losses and a draw.

Kayuni, who boasts 25 wins five losses and two draws, had this to say: “I have respect for Masamba because he is a fellow soldier; otherwise, he is swimming in treacherous waters by accepting to fight against me.” n
