Malani Kayuni has challenged Wilson ‘Shasha’ Masamba to a 10-round non-title bout to be staged at Obrigado Leisure Park in Mzuzu on December 4. Malani’s brother, Osgood, recently lost to Masamba in a controversial non-title bout held in Blantyre. The boxer told The Nation on Tuesday that he has challenged Masamba to avenge his brother. “I am happy that sponsors have finally come forward to sponsor this bout. Currently, I am on intensive training so that I should silence Masamba forever,” he said.

Masamba has since accepted the challenge to face the younger Kayuni. He, however, played down Malani’s outbursts, saying his opponent is not his match. “I am ready to punish him as I did with his brother Osgood. Malani has more years to train to reach my level, he is very young. I cannot afford to spoil my reputation as best boxer in Malawi because of him,” he said. This is the third meeting between the two. Masamba won in the previous encounters. Masamba boasts of 29 wins, six losses and a draw while Malani has16 victories, two draws and eight losses. The fight is sponsored by Bagidadi Mwamulima Boxing Promotion. In supporting bouts, Yobe Kanyenya will fight Wongani Kaira while Secret Chirwa will face Prince Mhone. Northern Region Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) chairperson Dustan Nyamazi has commended Bagidadi Mwamulima Boxing Promotion for organising the bout. n
