Masamba to face Malani Kayuni
New Dawn Boxing Promotions has organised its first bout for 2015 by lining up a lightweight non-title elimination fight pitting current lightweight king Wilson Masamba and Malani Kayuni.
According to New Dawn director Mike Chimaliza, the fight is scheduled for March 29 at Lilongwe Community Centre Ground.
“This fight was already sanctioned by MPBCB [Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board] president Lonzoe Zimba. The boxers signed their contracts on March 2,” he said.
The promoter said initially the bout was to take place on February 1, “but Malani said he does not want to fight after training for a short time again because this has been affecting his performance. This time, he will train for two months.”
Masamba is gearing up for a title fight against Salimu Chazama on May 3. His first tune-up was when he defeated Marshal Ali on February 1.
However, Malani says he also wants to use this bout to clean his dented record, claiming he was fighting without ample training.
