Masamba to faces South African in ABU title

Wilson ‘Shasha’ Masamba will face South African, Kaizer ‘The Animal’Mabuza in African Boxing Union (ABU) super lightweight title bout in Maputo, Mozambique on June 23.

No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotion chief executive officer Craig Rousseau, who is coordinating the bout, said the neural stage in Mozambique will provide a fair touch and undisputed results.

“No Pain No Gain has successively bid for our boxer, Wilson to fight for the international title. ABU is affiliated belt which can take him to challenge for World Boxing Council (WBC) title. The ball is on the boxer’s court to utilise this opportunity,” he said.

Rousseau said there is need for the boxer to prepare well.

“My advice is that, the boxer needs intensive training; he has enough time for that. I talked to his manager to provide him with all the training requirements,” he said.

Gladwell Yohane of Glasisi Building and Civil Engineering Contractors, who is managing Masamba promised full support.

Local boxers having been struggling in international bouts.

Recently, Chrispin Moliyati retired in the seventh round of the eight-round World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bout against Namibian

Paulus Moses in Windhoek.

Masamba said he is looking forward to a better performance against the South African boxer.

“I am looking forward to the winning in this fight. I am taking this as my opportunity to get international belt,” he said

According to BoxRec.com, Masamba has won 28 bouts and lost 11 while his opponent, Mabusa has won 26 bouts, lost 15 and drawn three.

Meanwhile, Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) has applauded Rousseau for

the initiative.

“It is good that some individuals are working day and night to develop the sport in the country,” said Maba president Justice Katika. n
