Masanjala fancies coaching in lower division

Escom United caretaker coach Alex Masanjala hinted on Wednesday that he would have no qualms coaching in the second tier Premier Division next season following the team’s relegation.

But Masanjala said his future with Escom would depend on whether he would agree contract terms with the team’s management.

“Coaching is coaching. It is not about which league you are coaching,” said the former Civo United coach.

As of yesterday, Masanjala had not returned from Lilongwe where the relegation was confirmed after losing 3-0 and 4-1 to Mafco and Silver Strikers on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

“I stayed behind to see my family. Guys such as Kondwani Gawani, Noel Mkandawire and Jacob Ngwira took charge of training. I will be back tomorrow [Thursday],” he said.

Escom players have in the two weeks been reportedly showing little commitment to attend training.

The Nation had asked Masanjala if the players were still able to train after the confirmed relegation.

On 19 points and three games to go, Escom face Mighty Wanderers on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium. Earlier, Escom chairperson Fanuel Nkhono said they hoped to retain the veteran trainer.
