There is a blackout on the date when the country’s leading Afro-pop singer Maskal returns to Malawi from his drawn-out tour of the UK.

Both Maskal’s manager Kimpho Loka and the artist’s wife Sekai said the artists will be back shortly, but could not give the exact date.

Maskal left the country on November 28 for a number of music shows and recordings in the UK.

His first music shows were at Iqbar Banqueting Suit in Birmingham on November 30 and Edward Lane Community Centre in Nottingham on December 7.

He was expected to perform his last shows in Manchester and Glasgow on December 13 and 14 before the latter show was moved to January 18.

H&K Events, who are organisers of the shows, announced that they had organised two more shows, one in Manchester on December 21 and another in Birmingham on New Year’s Eve. Both shows took place.

According to Loka, Maskal has completed his tour of duty and will be back in the country shortly.

“He was supposed to come this Friday, but his departure has been pushed to next week,” said Loka.

When asked what has delayed the artist’s return, Loka declined to give details.

“It is not about hiding information. He had his last show on January 18 and there are some things he had to finalise before returning home.

“There are some people who are interested in his music and others who are looking at possibilities of having him back in UK for some shows. The meetings have been scheduled for this week,” said Loka.

His wife said she talked to the artist who assured her that he would be back in the country this week or early next month.

While in the UK, the Zili Ndi Iwe hit-maker recorded the single The Way You Are at the Africa Translated Records in Birmingham and is reportedly currently working on a video of the song.
