Massa concerned with passports’ delay

Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) has expressed fears over the delay by the Department of Immigration to issue passports for some players that will participate in the Airtel Rising Stars Africa Schools Football Championship in Nigeria next month.

Joyce Banda Foundation (JBF) and Matindi Girls Academy will represent the country at the schools showpiece and the two teams are expected to leave the country on September 14.

Massa general secretary Blackson Malamula said their patience is wearing thin as time is running out in the countdown to the trip.

“Those that are based in Blantyre have had their passports processed, but we have a problem here in Lilongwe.

“The forms were submitted way back in July and the required period of 20 days for processing has since elapsed. When we ask the authorities, they keep on referring us to one another,” said Malamula.

He also said the situation is unlike the past four years when there were no hassles to obtain the travel documents.

JBF will participate in the boys’ tournament while Matindi will take part in the girls’ competition.
