Ambitious TNM Super League side Masters Security FC’s exploits this year did not go unnoticed as they have won the sports category in the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Innovations Awards held at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Saturday.

Gangata displays Masters’ trophy

The Lilongwe-based side’s team manager Muhammad Selemani described it as a big honour.
“We are very grateful to everyone who participated in the process for the recognition.

“We deserved the award because of the way we have performed this season. Special credit should go to the owner of the team, Alfred Gangata, because it is not easy to run a team in the Super League,” he said.

Masters defied all odds to win the Carlsberg Cup after booting out domestic football giants Nyasa Big Bullets in the semi-finals and Be Forward Wanderers in the finals through post-match penalties.

They are also the only side so far to have beaten Nyasa Big Bullets in the Super League with a 1-0 victory courtesy of Fransisco Mkonda’s strike.

Masters also participated in the inter-club Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup earlier in the year when they were booted out in the preliminary round by Angolan side Atletico Petroleos de Luanda on a 5-0 aggregate.
Masters lost the first leg 5-0 before playing out a goalless draw in the return leg. n
