Reverend Rabson Chimkwezule has also retained the post of Synod Moderator. Chimkwezule has won with 225 votes against Rev. Enerst Mpate’s 83 votes while Rev. Manford Kutani got 23 votes.

Chinkwezule’s deputy Rev. Edna Navaya won unopposed.

Presiding over the election, Chairperson Reverend Dr. Chatha Msangambe of Nkhoma Synod said he was glad that after all the arguments everything went back on track and according to plan.

Speaking in an interview with Nation online, Maulana said he was glad that God had spoken in his favour through the votes.

“So much has been speculated but this has taught us that the truth is not what people have been saying but what God is saying,” he said.

Maulana promised to continue serving the synod “diligently.”

Synod’s legal adviser Meya Chisanga said he was happy that the constitution of the church has been upheld.

Said Chisanga “If people want to amend the constitution it is up to them, but I am glad that this time around the constitution was respected.”

Earlier there was fracas in the election hall as members failed to agree on who was eligible to vote and who was not.

walked out of the meeting annoyed that he was not on the list of voters.

Ncozana failed to convince members to follow the old constitution that allowed everybody to vote.

The constitution was reviewed in 2007 to allow only two-thirds of delegates to the biennial meeting vote as the synod.
