Residents of Mchengautuwa, where the council currently dumps waste, expected MCC to stop disposing refuse at the place by November 2013.

The residents complained about bad smell and infections due to the presence of the site.

In an interview, Mkandawire admitted that the council was failing Mchengautuwa residents on the dumping site.

“The new dumping site was supposed to be constructed at Nsilo but I do not know why there is no progress. By now, we should have closed the dump site in Mchengautuwa or put a fence around it to protect the residents,” he said.

Mkandawire said continued dumping of waste at Mchengautuwa poses health risks, especially to children.
