Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has secured rights to broadcast the 2016 Uefa Euro  matches live on its television channel starting with the opening game this Friday.

MBC public relations officer Thembi Malinki told The Nation Monday the development means Malawians will be able to watch uninterrupted live matches on MBCtv and follow proceedings on Radio 2 FM.

“MBC is the only local station that has secured rights to the European football fiesta. Starting from the kickoff on June 10, we will be broadcasting selected games in each round up to the closing ceremony on July 10,” she said.

“As market leaders, we have seen the need to have quality sports programming in line with our mandate to inform, educate and entertain the nation.”

Malinki said this is unparalleled opportunity for Malawians to watch some of the world’s greatest football players in action for an entire month.

“We commit to bring the live football action and exciting moments from France and local analysts will provide expert analysis and commentaries in both English and Chichewa,” she said.

One of the football lovers in Blantyre Joseph Bwanali welcomed MBC’s initiative, saying it will help Malawians who cannot afford to experience the international soccer event through pay-in television. n
