MBS changes approach, to name and shame
Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) director general Davlin Chokazinga says they will now name and shame companies that fail to adhere to standards.
In the past, MBS was quietly suspending operations of such companies.
However, recently MBS has gone flat out suspending operations of companies that have not been adhering to set standards.
For instance, last week, MBS suspended operations of Lingadzi Inn, Capital City Motel and Seven Eleven Bakery in Lilongwe.
Said Chokazinga: “Before, we were conducting our business in silence, but now we have changed our approach by naming and shaming those not following standards.”
However, when Business News visited Lindadzi Inn soon after the announcement of the closure, some employees said it was business as usual
When told that Lingadzi Inn is still operational, Chokazinga promised to send his officers to find out if what necessitated the closure of one of the oldest tourism establishments has been rectified.
