Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has lifted the suspension order on production and distribution of opaque beer from the Lilongwe brewery of Chibuku Products Limited (CPL).

On Tuesday last week, MBS sealed CPL’s Lilongwe plant over failure to comply with expected hygiene standards.chibuku1

MBS director general Davlin Chokazinga said in an interview yesterday the clearance follows verification audits its inspectors conducted last week.

He said: “We can confirm that we have suspended the order on CPL’s Lilongwe plant and they are back in business.

“It is pleasing to note that immediately after we closed the plant, the company started working on the concerns that we raised.”

Chokazinga said MBS, which operates product and service and certification schemes to ensure compliance with quality standards, will not rest until it wipes traders who are not complying with the MS-21, a code of hygienic conditions for food and food processing.

CPL is a subsidiary of international brewer SABMiller.
