The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has warned companies to either maintain quality or risk closure.

MBS director general Davlin Chokazinga issued the warning in Mzuzu where the bureau presented permits and certificates of compliance to some companies in the Northern Region.

“We are doing a good job in enforcing standards although we face some challenges with imported goods.

“We will soon start a school programme to inculcate in students the importance of maintaining quality,” said Chokazinga.

He also warned shop owners against stocking expired products, saying the bureau will not hesitate to confiscate the goods.

Alifeyo Bakery, Mikoma Beach Resort, Namiashi Lodge and Universal Industries (Mzuzu branch) are some of the institutions that received the permits and certificates.
