South Africa-based Malawian forward Richard Mbulu on Tuesday netted his first DStv Premiership goal of the season, but his Baroka FC lost 2-1 to leaders and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

In a match monitored on SuperSport television, the beauty of the goal lay in the execution.

Mbulu was on target for Baroka

He turned a Sundowns defender inside out before clipping the ball into the far right corner in the 65th minute to cancel out Rivaldo Coetzee’s opener.

The Brazilians left it late to snatch the winner through Themba Zwane seven minutes from time.

Baroka remain rooted to the foot of the table on 10 points, two adrift of safety after suffering their ninth defeat of the season. They have played 15 matches.

Elsewhere, Mbulu’s compatriot Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango returned to Premier Soccer League action for Orlando Pirates after almost four months when he was thrown in as a substitute against Swallows with only two minutes to full time.

The match ended goalless.

Mhango has been reduced to a sideshow for the better part of the season and before Tuesday’s match he had last featured for Pirates in a CAF Confederations Cup on November 28 when he was also introduced as a substitute towards the end of the game against LRPC Oilers of Liberia.

At that time he had not featured in 11 matches.

Pirates are third with 24 points from 16 matches, 16 points behind leaders Sundowns.

Meanwhile, Flames captain Limbikani Mzava was an unused substitute when AmaZulu registered a seventh successive draw after coming back from two goals down to snatch a 2-2 draw against Chippa United.

Usithu are eighth with 21 points from 17 matches.
