The city has had uncollected waste for three weeks and there are no signs that it will be cleared anytime soon.

Mzuzu Vendors secretary Franklin Hara wondered why the city council is failing to remove garbage after starting on a good note.

He warned that the situation might scare investors and customers since waste might create a bad smell.

“They [MCC] started very well but are now off-track. I do not know what is happening because it is not good for investment,” he said.

Councillor for the area, Lusubilo Mwangonde, said he would follow up with MCC to find out why garbage is cleared.

But mayor of Mzuzu, William Mkandawire, said the people responsible could have forgotten to clear the waste.

He said with the festive season, a number of council employees went on holiday as such, there was no one to do the work.

“I have not seen the waste but I will check with relevant authorities.Honestly, the waste will have to be cleared,” said Mkandawire. n
