Mzuzu Central Hospital (MCH) has hailed the newly-formed Viphya Lions Club for supporting patients at the hospital, saying such gestures facilitate patients’ recovery.

The club donated food items and other necessities to patients in the male and female wards and eye section.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, MCH spokesperson Arnold Kayira said there are a number of things that patients lack and when organisations and individuals support them, such donations help meet their needs.

He commended Viphya Lions club for supporting patients, saying they have shown that Malawians are one and they can be answers to other people’s problems.

He said the gesture also shows that the community around the hospital should lead in supporting patients.

“Such visits also show the love the community has for patients as well as the hospital.  Patients feel better when they see that the community cares about them,” said Kayira.

Viphya Lions club president Thomas Malopa said the club felt duty bound to support patients at the hospital.

Malopa said during the festive season people are supposed to show love to others.

“We discussed what we could do for the community. So, we thought cheering patients was the best way to celebrate the festive season,” said Malopa.
