Mchinji DHO encourages immunisation

Mchinji district health officer (DHO) Dr Chimwemwe Banda says it is important to encourage health interventions such as immunisation and other measures to prevent disease outbreaks in the district. The DHO made the remarks in Mchinji on Monday when the Malawi Health Equity Network (Mhen) briefed health workers and other stakeholders on the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunisation (Gavi) civil society organisations (CSOs) strengthening project. He said most people only go to hospitals when they are sick, saying it is the duty of health personnel to encourage people to follow preventative measures to curb diseases. Project officer  Davies Mwachumu said the project supports increased access to life-saving vaccines within the world’s most underserved populations.—SARA MUNTHALI, Malawi News Agency
