Mchinji students urged to have role models

Students at Misale Community Day Secondary School in Mchinji have been urged to have role models and avoid peer pressure so to achieve their goals in life.

African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (Award) 2015 fellows Zione Kalumikiza and Veronica Guwela said this on Friday during a role modelling event at the school.

On her part, Guwela encouraged girls and boys to be partners in education and avoid peer pressure which can lead to bad behaviours such as pre-marital sex.

One of the students, 16-year-old Beatrice Sinoya, said she was encouraged with Kalumikiza’s and Guwela’s motivational talks.

During the event, outstanding students received mathematical instruments, calculators and T-shirts.

Kalumikiza is a lecturer at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar) while Guwela is Cassava Adding Value for Africa (Cava) production specialist at Chancellor College, a constituent college of the University of Malawi (Unima). n
