The High Court in Blantyre has adjourned to May 24 a judicial review case in which private-practice lawyer, Ambokire Salimu, wants to move the court to grant him an ex-parte injunction restraining the Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) from administering elections in the country.

Salimu wants to hold Mec until an express statutory provision is enshrined in the electoral laws for public officers to account for campaign promises.court

Judiciary spokesperson Mlenga Mvula, speaking in an interview, said the case was adjourned because Salimu had informed the court that he would not be available on today.

Salimu has dragged Mec to court in his personal capacity as a Malawian citizen.
