Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has rejected nomination papers of some aspiring candidates in Dowa.
The aspirants include Steven Chingondo (People’s Party-PP) and Florence Banda (Democratic People’s Congress-Depeco) who were rejected for failing to pay nomination fees.
MEC also turned down aspiring councillors Regina Chunga (United Democratic Front-UDF) and Steven Chidothi (PP).
Chunga was rejected for being an unregistered voter while Chidothi failed to pay nomination fees.
Meanwhile, 47 parliamentary candidates, out of whom 21 are independent candidates, are competing for seven constituencies in the district while 75 aspiring councillors are fighting for 14 wards, according to MEC.
